Quarantena – il quarantesimo giorno
Day 40. So we’re officially MORE than a quarantine! Quarantena was a practice in Venice during the Black Death to hold ships in isolation for 40 days before allowing passengers and crew to enter the city. Joe says he doesn’t even feel like we’re at anchor yet!
We continue to miss our “people” and our daily routines. Granted, we are pretty much the “stay at home” types outside of a quarantine, but we did have a nice routine, morning and evening, of getting outside, seeing people, having our passeggiata every evening on the way to aperitivo, etc. Strolling through town, window shopping. We especially miss the early signs of spring on Via Montegrappa.
Today we are expecting a grocery delivery again. I’m not sure what we would do without all of the workers in town who are keeping us fed! I know that some people are still going out shopping, but we are maintaining our strict “no contact” rule for our family unit. We realize that unless we both stay diligent, we are both at risk. It’s a difficult concept for some. I encourage you to read this article if you want to understand how important it is for everyone in your household to “Hold the Line”.
We hope we aren’t in for another 40 days of quarantine. But we are prepared for that if need be, and will not return to our “old routines” as soon as the Italian government says it’s okay for limited lifting of restrictions. In fact, we intend to “just stay home” as long as needed in order to keep ourselves safe and healthy! How’s your quarantine going? I’d love to hear from you in the comments.
