No – my Italian hasn’t improved by leaps and bounds.  Unfortunately.  But today was a welcome change from continual language struggles.  Today we headed to Belgium to pick up our son.  We’re going through Switzerland, and then to see some friends in Luxembourg, before ending up in Belgium.

The past few weeks have been great, but very difficult linguistically.  It’s fantastic to have Joe to talk to in English, but I definitely get headaches from trying so hard to learn, remember and speak Italian.

But today!  TODAY I UNDERSTAND EVERYTHING.  We have stopped in Luzern for the night, and it is so nice to not have to think about what is going on around me.  The ability to just eavesdrop is SO underrated 🙂 – I had forgotten how difficult and tiring it is to constantly be trying to understand enough around us to keep from feeling just dumb!

I’ll savor this moment for a few more hours.  We’ll be back in Switzerland near the end of this trip in about 10 days, and then I can enjoy it for almost 3 days before being thrust back into the world of Italian.  I’m really looking forward to the day when I can eavesdrop in Italian.  I wonder if I’ll learn anything scandelous!
