The very first time we were in Borgo Val di Taro, I noticed a pastry/wine & spirits shop called “Steckli”.  Well, that’s a very Swiss name!  I didn’t think much about it, but now that we’re “locals” I wanted to find out more.  This particular shop was founded in the 1920s or so by the brothers Steckli, who indeed came here from Switzerland.  They were instrumental in developing a pastry (actually a kind of buttercream between wafers) called L’Amor (not to be misspelled amour!).  They are luscious.

Next to being the porcini capital of the universe, this area is also know for the Amor!  These are so important that there is a festival for them!

Alas, we will be in the US during this time (as we will for the mushroom festival – feel bad for us!).  I guess I’ll just have to eat enough while we’re here to make up for it!
