Things you find in old church records
I’m back to scouring church records for insights on Zanrè information. In doing so, I’ve stumbled on a rather interesting find.
My husband Joe has been friends with one Vinnie Baruffati for about 4 decades. They had a few things in common in Scotland, one of which was they were both from Italian heritage. They knew that both of their families were from the same general area of Italy, but never thought too much about it.
Here in this church record from 1578 (yes, the 441 years ago 1578), what looks to be Serafina Baruffati is serving as godmother to young Giovanni Domenico Zanrè, son of Barnabe and Caterina Zanrè. So, the Baruffati and Zanrè have been hanging out together now for about 450 years.
It really does make you wonder if there isn’t some genetic/cosmic pull that causes certain people to fit their lives together no matter where they find each other in the world. Or if that’s too woo-woo for you, it’s still just a really great story of how a couple of Scots-Italians link their families over the centuries! 😉
